Saturday, February 8, 2020, will be a drive led by Ronnie Celeste, meeting at 8:30am with wheels rolling at 9:00am from the Cracker Barrel on I-45 at Airtex (14765 North Fwy, Houston TX).
Register on the club website, or notify Charlie Laine, via text msg 936-232-5625 or Chas.Laine@gmail.com with your name and the number of your guests.
We will be taking I-45 south to Buc-ees at 6201 Gulf Fwy, Texas City 77591, for a 10 to 15 minute Pit Stop. This is about a 55 minute drive, with an easy freeway off and on. When you see the Dickinson Exit, be sure you get in the right lane for the next exit for Buc-ees. The exit for Buc-ees is 17 (or Holland Road).
We will leave Buc-ees for about a 30 minute drive to the restaurant, taking I-45 south to the first exit after the Galveston Causeway which is Harborside Dr (or 275). We will turn left on Harborside Dr and continue on it to 20th Street (not 21st as the map shows). The restaurant is on 20th, not 21st, and the map restaurant location is wrong! We will turn left on 20th, then take the first right into the first parking lot. This parking lot holds 60 cars, and they will have cones set up for our club reserved parking. They will have someone there at the parking lot entrance to give us parking passes to place on our dashboards as we drive through to park. This will eliminate us having to pay for parking and getting reimbursed for three hours. These passes will be good for three hours. This also might give us an extra hour or so to visit the Strand for those who want to do so. The restaurant will have tables set up in a section for our group. We can choose inside if it’s cold out, or we can choose the covered, or uncovered, outside if the temperatures and weather permits. I will call the restaurant to give them a head count and a car count when we leave the Cracker Barrel.
After lunch, everyone can do their own thing...the Strand, drive along the Seawall, or go home. I was there on Tuesday, January 21, and drove back home on Gulf Fwy north, taking Beltway 8 East to my area of Houston. It was an easy drive on that mid afternoon. Hope and pray for sunshine and great weather!
